<span style="font-size: medium;">After being Charged with adultery and Apostasy on May 15, 2014. Meriam was freed June 23, 2014. June 24, 2014, less than 24 hours of being freed she was detained again with her children and husband who did not leave her side. Thursday June 26, 2014 she is freed again, however the family has to stay in Sudan.</span><br />

“<span style="font-size: medium;">We are in communication with the Sudanese Foreign Ministry to ensure that she and her family will be free to travel as quickly as possible,” State Department spokeswoman Marie Harf said in Washington. "From our perspective, Miriam has all of the documents she needs to travel to and enter the United States. It is up to the government of Sudan to allow her to exit the country."</span><br />

<span style="font-size: medium;">Meriam and family almost made it out of Sudan last Tuesday but Sudanese authorities found her documents false and she was accused of giving false information on her travel documents (forgery). The Sudan authority discussed the situation with the South Sudan diplomats and the US diplomats. </span> <br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">It seems like Meriam and family were in a terrible situation for the last 4 months. Meriam was jailed without warning after her half sibling ratted her to the authority. She was charged with adultery for being married to Wani a Christian man on December 19, 2011. Meriam’s dad was a Muslim man, under their law, she must follow her dad’s religion. Marrying a Christian man is not allowed. A Muslim woman married to a Christian man is considered adultery (punishment for adultery is 100 lashes). Meriam considered herself a Christian, for that she committed apostasy, change of religion is strictly forbidden (punishment; death by hanging). She had given birth with her legs shackled to the floor. </span> <br />

<span style="font-size: medium;">The foreign government and the International community are really supportive of her, through petitions and world wide outcry, vying for her freedom throughout the ordeal. </span> <br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">According to Muhannad Mustafa (Meriam’s lawyer), she is currently in the US embassy with her family. The National Intelligence Authority accused her of false travel document and the family has to stay in Sudan.</span>

who was sentenced to be hung for apostasy and adultery was finally
released Monday June 23, 2014.  She was freed by the appeal court,
her death sentenced was cancelled.  But unfortunately on Tuesday,
Miriam was re-arrested as she and her family were about to board the
plane from Khartoum to South Sudan. She is now detained with
her husband and two children in the airport's security building.  </span>

Security officials stopped Meriam Ibrahim and her family at the
airport today, Tuesday June 24, 2014.  At this time, nobody knows why
they are detained. A report said that the officials only want to
detain Meriam and the children but the husband did not want to leave
her side, so the security detained Daniel Wani (husband) as well.</span></div>

May 15, 2014 for apostasy and adultery. Under Sharia law in Sudan a
Muslim woman can't change her religion and marry a Christian man. But
a man can marry someone from other religious groups.  Meriam claimed,
she was never a Muslim. Her Muslim dad left and her Christian mom
raised her as a Christian. She was given 3 days to renounce her
Christianity but she refused.  For Marrying a Christian man
(adultery) she was sentenced to 100 lashes. For apostasy (change of
religion), she was sentenced to death. </span>

<span style="font-size: medium;">A man named Richard, posted a picture of him and his wife on his facebook (fb). Of course, some of his fb friends commented on the picture. But one comment posted by a neighbour irked him for whatever reason. </span> </div>

<span style="font-size: medium;">The guy, got his knife and went to the neighbour’s house whose comment he did not like. He hacked her to death. Another person was also injured for trying to stop him hacking the neighbour.</span></div>

Vanuatu is a small island in the middle of the South Pacific.<br />

Before land diving become a traditional ritual for men 15
centuries ago, there was a legend about a woman running away from her
sexually aggressive husband. She was upset and she ran away to the
forest to hide but her husband followed her. She climbed to a
Banian/Banyan tree. Her husband climbed after her. She tied her
ankles with the tree vines and then jumped. Her husband jumped too
but he died after jumping because he did not tie his ankles with
vines before jumping off the tree. Men jump from high towers with the
belief that they will not be tricked again.<br />
<br />
The men believe that the said husband of the story will avenge his
death. So, part of the preparation of the land diving is that women
are prohibited to be near the tower before the ritual. The divers
also avoid sex and a night before the ritual divers have to sleep
underneath the tower to ward off the bad spirit.<br />

<span style="font-size: medium;"><b>Land Dive for Yam Crop</b>:</span><br />
Land Diving is associated with a good yam harvest. Men land dive
as a sacrifice to make the gods happy and give them bountiful harvest
of yam crop. The higher they jump the better the harvest.

<span style="font-size: medium;"><b>Land Dive as a rite of passage of young boys:</b></span><br />
Once a young boy is circumcised he is now allowed to wear braided
fibres over his genitals. Then he is now allowed to land dive. The
boy will start jumping low then to a higher land dive.<br />
The boy will jump with the elders and their mothers watching him.
A mother will be holding his favourite object or anything the boy
likes while the boy will do the land dive. Once a boy accomplishes
the land dive, his object will be thrown away as a symbol of manhood.<br />

<span style="font-size: medium;"><b>Land Dive for other reasons:</b></span><br />

They said that land diving removes
some illnesses as it give strength to the men diving and it also an
expression of masculinity in the ritual. The higher a man can dive
the manlier he can be regarded in the community.</div>

<span style="font-size: medium;"><b>Months for land Diving:</b></span><br />
Around the months of April, May and June people build towers up to
100 feet, probably more. The men tie vines on the platform on the
tower and also around their ankles. Then men have to dive from the
platform headfirst. It is said that these divers can reach the speed
of 45 miles an hour as they fall to the ground.<br />
<br />
The diver has to aim to land very close to the ground or shoulders
may even touch the ground. If you miss calculate your landing then
that would mean serious injury or even death. The safety, depends
upon many things for example, the elasticity of the vines, your
weight and how the elders calculated the strength of the wood used in
making towers for land dive.

Early morning before the divers land
dive, divers have to anoint themselves with coconut oil. They can
also decorate themselves with boar tusks. The men also wear nambas or
cloth that they wrap around their penises (penis sheaths). Women  have a part in the ritual as they dance with their grass dresses
but bare-breasted.</div>
