Italy: Bernardo Provenzano aka Binnu u tratturi was a member of
the Sicilian Mafia (Cosa Nostra). He was a suspected of being the
head of the Corleonesi. a Mafia faction from the town of Corleone
and de facto capo di tutti capi (boss of bosses) of the entire
Sicilian Mafia.

Bernardo was arrested in 2006 after the successful re creation of
his picture from 1959 by the Italian detectives.

Recently the image of Jesus as a 12 year old boy was re created
with the same technology using the Turin Shroud.

The Turin Shroud is an ancient linen sheet regarded as holy by
some Christians. It is the burial cloth that wrapped Christ's body
after his crucifixion and contains the imprint of his face.

According to some historians the Shroud was owned by the Byzantine
emperors however it disappeared during the Fourth Crusade in1204. 
During the fourth crusade many things of immeasurable values were
vandalized, stolen some were destroyed.

Around the years 1353 to 1357, it was in the possession of a
French Knight, Geoffroi de Charny, who was killed in the battle of
Poitiers in 1356.

In 1578 Emmanuel Philibert the Duke of Savoy brought the shroud
from Chambéry to Turin. But before that in 1532, the shroud
suffered damage from a fire. Then the Poor Clare Nuns tried to fix it
with patches. The Shroud was repaired again in 1694 by Sebastian
Valfre to improve the repairs made by the nuns. Then another repair
was made in 1868 by Clotilde of Savoy. In 1983, it was given to the
Holy see. In 2002, it was restored again.

Many argued that the shroud is not real. Beside that it was
damaged and repaired many times, many think that the shroud was just
a work of someone who was a forger and murderer.

In 1958 Pope Pius XII approved the shroud to be revered. Pope
Francis and Pope Benedict XVI Pope have both described the Shroud of
Turin as "an icon." Pope Saint John Paul II said the Shroud
"a mirror of the Gospel".

The shroud will be exhibited on June 21 to mark the 200th
anniversary of the birth of St John Bosco, a 19th century monk. The
monk worked to educate the less fortunate children in his time.

The Shroud is displayed until June 24 2015, free of charge but by
appointment.

Bujumbura Burundi: Violence
erupted across
Bujumbura a day after a
former intelligence
chief, Gen
Godefroid Niyombare
attempted to overthrow
President Pierre Nkurunziza. The
people said it is
unconstitutional for him to run for more than two terms. Nkurunziza,
however, argues his
first term did not count as he was elected by parliament, not
directly by the people.

At least 50,000 civilians
have fled to Rwanda and other neighbouring countries.

Heavy gunfire rang out from
the direction of the ruling CNDD-FDD party headquarters in Bujumbura,
which witnesses said were being guarded by police. The people are
confused who is in control of the capital.

Early on Thursday, the army
chief of staff, Gen Prime Niyongabo, announced that he did not
support the attempted coup. Niyongabo said he had negotiated with
those supporting the coup but if they “did not understand talking,
we will make them understand by force”.

Heavy fighting flared
around the state broadcasting headquarters, forcing radio
transmissions to stop. They resumed after the shooting stopped to
announce that state radio was still in the hands of forces loyal to
the president. The state broadcaster is seen as a strategic asset for
both sides to reach the population.

Earlier, the African Public
Radio station, which was shut down and reopened after the coup
attempt, was set alight and prevented from broadcasting. Heavy plumes
of smoke rose from the building. Radio Bonesha a private station, was
also attacked by people with grenades and gunfire.

Burundi’s international
airport was shut then reportedly reopened and taken over by party
loyalists.

On October 21, 1993,
Burundi's first democratically elected Hutu president, Melchior
Ndadaye was assassinated by Tutsi extremists after 3 months of
becoming a president. As a result, violence broke out between the two
groups, Hutu and Tutsi. It was estimated that at least 50,000 to
100,000 people died within a year. A 1996 UN report into Ndadaye's
assassination and its aftermath, concluded that "acts of
genocide against the Tutsi minority were committed in Burundi in
October 1993"

In 1994, Ndadaye’s
successor, Cyprien Ntaryamira was also Hutu was assassinated.

North Korea, Reign of Terror: Defence Chief Hyon Yong-chol 'Obliterated'

North
Korea's
15 senior officials were executed a few weeks ago for challenging Kim
Jong -un's authority. Then it's the Defence Minister Hyon Yong-chol
turn. He was executed for showing disloyalty to the “Supreme”
leader Kim Jong-un according to South Korea's spy agency. Mr Hyon
had fallen asleep during an event attended by Kim Jong-un and had
failed to carry out the instructions.

MP’s were told Mr Hyon was killed on 30 April by anti-aircraft
fire in front hundreds of spectators. Poof, he's gone.

Mr Hyon had been a general since 2010. Mr. Hyon, was said to be
only appointed minister of the People's Armed Forces less than one
year ago, publicly disagreed with the young dictator.

Mr Kim purged and executed his once-powerful uncle for treachery
in 2013. Kim's uncle, Chang Song-thaek - once the country's
second-most powerful figure. The uncle was accused of stealing state
funds and plotting to overthrow Mr. Kim. He was arrested in December
in front of a party meeting, found guilty of treason and immediately
executed.

Hong Kong-based pro-Beijing newspaper Wen Wei Po reported that
Jang and his five closest aides were set upon by 120 hunting hounds
which had been starved for five days.

Kim and his brother Kim Jong Chol supervised the one-hour ordeal
along with 300 other officials, according to Wen Wei Po. The
newspaper added that Jang and other aides were "completely eaten
up."

Among the 15 officials executed in the past weeks were two vice
ministers who had challenged Mr Kim over his policies and members of
an orchestra, according to the South's National Intelligence Agency
(NIS).

In August of 2013, it was reported that a group of North Korean
performers were executed after 3 days of being arrested. They were
executed using the machine guns while the families were forced to
watch. One of the 12 people that were executed was a singer Hyon
Song-wol, the ex lover of Kim Jong-un.

Kim Jung-un was believed to have ordered the execution of 68
senior officials, some by machine gun, between 2011-2012.

Another earthquake has
struck eastern Nepal, near Mount Everest (Tuesday 12, 2015).  
There
were 48 people that died, and more than 1,000 were injured.

Two weeks before, more than
8,000 people died.

The latest earthquake hit
near the town of Namche Bazaar and sent thousands of panicked
residents on to the streets of Kathmandu.

The latest quake had a
magnitude of 7.3 depending on reports, compared with the 7.8 of the 25 April quake.

The quake was felt in
northern India, Tibet and Bangladesh. It is reported that in India,
16 people died in the state of Bihar, and one in Uttar Pradesh. One
person was confirmed dead in Tibet.

Rescue helicopters were
sent to the districts of Kathmandu that are worst hit. Police in
Charikot, 80km north-east of the capital, said 20 people had died
there. A Marine Corps helicopter involved went missing. It is said
that 8 people were on board.

The very strong quake
caused a many buildings in Katmandu to collapse. A number of
landslides were also reported. They are still expecting the number
of deaths to go up.

Prime Minister Sushil
Koirala urged all those who had assisted Nepal since the 25 April
quake "to once again extend your helping hand".

The 7.3 quake was followed
by six aftershocks of magnitude 5.0.

The
Indonesian government executed the eight prisoners except Mary Jane
(MJ) Veloso from Philippines. MJ was brought back to the jail where
she served time, after her sentenced was temporarily reprieved.  
 
 
The
execution was cancelled a minute before it was carried out. Just like
in a movie. The family said that the night of the execution they had
vigil and prayers and all the lighted candles suddenly extinguished
except one. They interpreted it as something impossible will happen
that moment.

Chan</h2>
Andrew
was arrested in
Denpasar in April 2005, on a flight going
back to Australia. He
was not
carrying drugs, but was found guilty of masterminding a drug
smuggling ring and recruiting seven other Australians – the
so-called Bali nine.

 
He
became a committed Christian and a pastor, and spent much of his day
in prayer or religious study, and counselling other prisoners. 
 
He
married his Indonesian girlfriend, Febyanti Herewila, in a ceremony
on the eve of his execution. He got married on Nusa Kambangan, the
prison island where he awaited the firing squad.

Sukumaran</h2>
Myuran
awas arrested with Chan in 2005, he was 24. During his time in
prison he has become an accomplished artist. His final painting is a
heart dripping with blood signed by all nine condemned prisoners.  
 
 
Chinthu
Sukumaran, brother of Myuran, said: “We did talk about the death
penalty and he knows this is just a waste. He knows this is not
going to solve anything with drugs.” 
Myuran's
family just like other families of the convicts had asked the
president to show mercy. But the President did not. 
 
Rodrigo
Gularte 
 
Rodrigo
Gularte, has twice been diagnosed with schizophrenia, and is the
second Brazilian to be shot by firing squad in Indonesia this year,
2015. 
 
The
Brazilian foreign ministry has declared the death sentence
“unacceptable” and “contrary to the common sense and basic
standards of human rights protection” in a letter sent on Monday to
the government in Jakarta. 
 
According
to the story he was from a wealthy family in the state of Paraná. 
He was arrested at Jakarta airport in 2004 with 6kgs of cocaine
hiding in a surfboard. 
 
His
lawyers have argued unsuccessfully that his history of mental illness
made him unfit to stand trial. He was first diagnosed with a mental
illness in 1982. It was also confirmed by the doctors that he has
schizophrenia.  
 
 
 
Martin
Anderson 
Martin
was sentenced to death in 2004 after being found guilty of possessing
about 50g (1.8oz) of heroin. The 50-year-old travelled to Indonesia
on a false passport and was thought to be Ghanian. 
Martin
was reportedly shot in
the leg during his arrest. His lawyer told the media that he has been
in poor spirits since being moved to Nusa Kambangan to face
execution.

Raheem
Agbaje Salami (also
known as
Jamiu Owolabi Abashin)</h2>
Raheem,
50 was homeless in Bangkok when a new “friend” offered him $400
to take some clothes to Indonesia. He was arrested in Surabaya with
5.5kg (12lb) of heroin and originally sentenced, in 1999, to life in
prison. 
He
appealed for a for presidential clemency. Raheem admitted he had
known he was carrying the drugs. His appeal was unsuccessful.

Silvester
Obiekwe Nwolise</h2>
Silvester,
47, was convicted in 2002 of smuggling just over a kilogram of heroin
into Indonesia. He was sentenced to death. 
He
was carrying tablets – which he swallowed – containing goat horn
powder for some Nigerian friends in Pakistan. He had no translator
during his trial, and there were rumours that a bribe was sought to
spare him a death sentence.

Okwuduli
Oyatanze</h2>
Okwuduli,
41, was sentenced to death in 2002, found guilty of attempting to
bring 2.5kg of heroin through Jakarta in capsules. The capsules were
inside his stomach. 
Charles
Burrows, a Catholic priest who has counselled says that Okwuduli had
thought that being a drug mule would be “easy money”.

Zainal
Abidin</h2>
Abidin,
50, an Indonesian, was moved to Nusa Kambangan in preparation for
execution despite still having an appeal due to be heard by the
courts. He was convicted in 2001 of being the ringleader to sell
marijuana but he denied it. 
 
Two
men convicted with him, who he claims were the real masterminds of
the ring, are now free.
