<span style="font-size: medium;">Japan has killed 333 minke
whales 103  males including more than 230 females as part of this
year’s Antarctic whale hunt, according to the country’s Institute
for Cetacean Research. Ninety per cent (90%) of  these female whales
were pregnant.</span><br />

Commission, which regulates the industry, has banned commercial
whaling since 1986, but an exemption for scientific studies remains.
Japan has long been accused of using this exemption as an excuse for
commercial whaling activities.  International Court of Justice
rejected Japan's scientific claims and ordered an end to its JARPA II
research, which claims to study the maintenance and improvement of
the minke whale population and the effects of environmental changes
on the whale's food supply, <a href="http://www.icrwhale.org/scJARPA.html" target="_blank">according
to its website</a>. </span>

<span style="font-size: medium;">Japan launched a new
research program after the court ruling in 2014 that says 333 whales
could be killed annually, according to <a href="https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http://www.jfa.maff.go.jp/j/whale/pdf/outline-of-newrep-a.pdf" target="_blank">Japan's
Fisheries Agency and Ministry of Foreign Affairs</a>. </span>

<span style="font-size: medium;">After the international
court ruling, Japan halted its whaling activities briefly, but then
<a href="http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2014/09/140918-japan-scientific-whale-hunt-animals-ocean-science/" target="_blank">resolved</a>
to begin whaling again in the 2015-2016 season. It revised its
program to be more scientific, and it lowered its quota of whales by
about two-thirds.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: medium;">In previous years, Japan
has killed between 200-400 Antarctic minke whales each year.</span><br />

<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">Japan maintains that it
must capture and kill juvenile and adult females in order to
determine the age at which minke whales reach sexual maturity.</span><br />

<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">The four vessels left the
port of Shimonoseki, <a href="http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/30/asia/japan-whaling-research/">southwest
of Tokyo, in December 2015</a> and returned Thursday.</span><b><span style="font-size: medium;">

was part of a 12-year program that will kill 4,000 minke whales which
many people thought just a guise for commercial hunts.</span><br />

Greenpeace, a longtime opponent of Japan's whaling program, <a href="https://twitter.com/Greenpeace/status/713033915800260608" target="_blank">stated
in a tweet</a>: "The Japanese whaling fleet defies the UN and
kills 333 whales, including 200 pregnant mothers."</span><br />

<span style="font-size: medium;">Greg Hunt, the Australian
environment minister, said the Australian government opposes whaling
“clearly, absolutely and categorically”. </span>

“<span style="font-size: medium;">It is in my view
abhorrent and a throwback to an earlier age,” he said. “There is
no scientific justification for lethal research.”</span><br />

<span style="font-size: medium;">Hunt criticized Japan for
going ahead with the killings “in spite of a resolution by the
International Whaling commission calling on it not to go whaling”.</span><br />

Suisan Kumiai also known as Japanese Whaling Association was
established with Jura Oka as the first President. The association has
12 companies with a total of 28 whaling vessels.  The number of
whales killed that year were 1,312. The average kill for the next 25
years would be around 1,500 whales.</span><br />

in 1910, "I am firmly convinced that we shall become one of the
greatest whaling nations in the world. The day will come when we

Japanese whalers operating between Japan and Korea were largely
responsible for practically wiping out the Western grey whale
populations. By 1915, only 150 of these whales could be accounted

 His house stands in the middle of a forest, surrounded by tall trees. In his garden are different herbal plants like tudlo kamay, managhoy, talirugok, and tambal. He uses their leaves and the roots in making concoctions, love potions, lucky charms, and pangontra or protection from a sorcerer’s spell. Mang edol has been doing this magic for over 40 years.<br />

 “Some of my clients come all the way from Dubai, Singapore, Abu Dhabi, America, and Cambodia,” Mang Edol said.

He handles land conflicts, marital infidelity, and rape victims who want to exact revenge.<br />

 However, he does not accept all the cases brought to him, except when you can prove that you are a victim of injustice.

Some of his clients want the most extreme penalty for their enemies, meaning death.

Clients pay to scare their enemies or inflict pain to teach them a lesson, he says, showing pictures of the persons he has cursed. You can pay 20,000 to 30,000 php or depending on your capability to pay. He has cursed so many people that he can no longer remember how many.

On a small sheet of paper, he will write the name of the person and place it inside the skull and burn the photo turning into ashes. After seven Fridays he will go to the cemetery to bury the name and picture of the one he cursed.<br />

Mang Edol said, “the victim will suffer from different serious diseases which cannot be treated by doctors. The person’s condition may get worse until he dies.”

His client sends a text message or calls to inform him about the fate of the victim.<br />

 The death spell, can be reversed if his client wishes it.

“I reverse the spell by digging the picture of the victim I buried in the cemetery. But I have to be informed of it immediately, because if the victim’s condition gets worse, it may be too late and I can no longer do anything to save him,” Mang Edol said.<br />

 According to some reports he got his power from an old woman who gave it to him. Others say his parents passed it to him.<br />

way”  which was sent by three of the terrorists before they

fingerprint belonging to Abdeslam was found in one apartment also

refugees in Canada.  </span>

<span style="font-size: medium;">In Nova Scotia, refugees
continue to land. According to Refugee Response, to date, 572 Syrian
refugees have come to the province (other sources said there are 694
Syrian refugees living in the province). 451refugees arrived through
government-assisted sponsorship and 121 came through private and mixed sponsorship.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: medium;">The new Syrian refuges are living in Halifax,
Dartmouth, Timberlea, Yarmouth, Digby, Bridgewater, Antigonish,
Petite Riviere, Pictou, Port Hood, Kentville, Wolfville, Shelburne
and Marion Bridge. </span>

<span style="font-size: medium;">According to Nova Scotia
Refugee Response refugees are strong, resilient and glad to be here.
It is good they are away from war in Syria. But refugees in Canada
still face difficulties.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: medium;">A report said that a
Syrian refugee now living with his family in Dartmouth is grateful
for all the help they're receiving. However, they're struggling
because they do not have enough cash to feed his family of 8.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">Waleed Alghlidyan, his wife
Amnah and their six children arrived in Nova Scotia on Jan. 19, 
2016. They're among the government-sponsored refugees living in the
province of Nova Scotia.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">The family came from a
refugee camp in Jordan where they spent 2 and a half years.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">Alghdyan says his family
has received support from the government, the local immigrant
settlement organization and neighbours, but the reality has been
difficult.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">"We were expecting
something better than this," Alghdyan told CBC News through an
interpreter. "Expectations didn't meet reality."</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">The family was given $9,000
to buy furniture and provide them with their basic needs and look
after other basic supplies. But after spending $3,000 to make sure
everyone had a comfortable bed to sleep in the family thought they
cannot afford to spent more.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">"If we were to spend
all that money on furniture and supplying appliances and stuff for
the house, we wouldn't have money to buy food and buy other
essentials," Alghdyan said through the interpreter.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">Like other
government-sponsored refugees with families of a similar size, the
Alghdyans receive a monthly living allowance of $1,350.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">He, his wife and 6 children
(8 in all) are living in a three-bedroom house, the rent is $1,100 a
month. The family also has cable, phone and internet bundle costs
$114. So, $1,000 for house rent plus 114. cable bundle is $ 1,214.
They only have about $100 left for food.</span><br />

<span style="font-size: medium;">Some people are stepping in
to help, friends neighbours others supporters too. They have a
furniture and food drive to help out this family.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">Alghdyan hopes other Syrian
families, also struggling to make ends meet will be fortunate in
finding friends and neighbours willing to help them out.</span><br />
<br />
<br />
<span style="font-size: medium;">Privately sponsored
refugees are much better, because they have a built-in support group
not like the government-sponsored families.  </span>

This lady belonged in front of my camera. After a conversation with
her husband telling him the story of our meeting, I decided I was
going to photograph her that very afternoon. Within an hour, Bimpe
Onakoya, one of Nigeria’s leading makeup artist, and Zubby, one of
my favourite hairstylists, were at my studio to work magic. They had
both followed the story online and were more than happy to put in
their very best for her.</span></span></span></span></em></div>
